When Chaos is perceived as a great confusion of matter out of which a supreme
being creates life, the epic tales of Odysseus and Gilgamesh
take on a new perspective. The quest that is inherent to all stories of heroes
becomes the process of seeking order from chaos. This 5 page essay asserts that
for Odysseus, it was an motional chaos that needed an understanding of the
structure of relationships. For Gilgamesh, it was
the chaos of uncertainty in the process of life and seeking understanding of the
structure by acknowledging the human condition.
