A five page paper looking at the Babylonian story of Gilgamesh
and the Biblical book of Genesis in terms of their retelling of the legend of
the Great Flood. The paper concludes that aside from the bare facts of the two
tales, which are very similar, the Hebrews seemed to be directly responsible for
God's wrath in a way that the Babylonians were not. Bibliography lists four
sources.

Gilgamesh
and Genesis: A Religious Comparison
[ send

A six page look at these two ancient stories in terms of their philosophy toward
the continuity of life. The paper suggests that the Sumerians, in fact, felt
that since death was the end of everything, humans’ responsibility is to live
vigorously and well; the Hebrews, on the other hand, found their own
“salvation” in community and tradition, which insured an ongoing and
consistent expression of faith despite the deaths of individual members.
Bibliography lists seven sources.
